OpenVPN Connect is the “official” application of OpenVPN Inc. and is intended to be more user-friendly VPN users with limited technical expertise. It’s also less loaded than openvpn for Android that is targeted at more advanced OpenVPN users.
Openvpn for Android is a no-cost and open-source client created by Arne Schwabe that lets you connect to any VPN service that is compatible with the OpenVPN protocol. It’s an excellent choice for devices that aren’t compatible with pre-configured “off the shelf” VPN apps that are available in the Google Play Store. Setup is relatively easy. You’ll need to download the VPN profile files. (The configuration files are named.ovpn). These files can be downloaded from your VPN provider’s site or via live chat support.
Once you’ve imported your profile, simply tap on one of the servers listed in order to connect to the server. Once connected then your Internet traffic will be directed through a secure openvpnandroid.com/secure-data-room-that-stimulates-fast-performance/ tunnel to the server specified in the application. The Status tab lets you examine your connection’s information and the status. The kill switch is activated by default. It will block your internet connection if the VPN tunnel is cut off.
The app also provides per-app VPN and an automatic feature that automatically activates an VPN connection whenever the app is used and keeps it running even after your device is shut down or switches networks. However, the latter requires Android 7.0 or higher and can drain your battery more than normal.
